Is an eating disorder illness only relevant to girls and women? Our culture tends to think it’s mostly girls who struggle with anorexia or bulimia. Not so at all. A rising number of teenage boys are suffering and using diet pills, laxatives and other substances to control their issues. Boys are facing similar pressures as girls and obsessed with having to be lean and fit, more so, struggling mentally because of other underlying issues. Experts in the field know that this is a mental issue and not just about the physical component. Very scary and very real, we need to raise awareness and encourage parents of boys, families with boys, friends who are boys, to watch the signs and intervene early on before it’s too late.
